Job summary

Sir Robert McAlpine is delivering Therme Manchester, a landmark wellbeing and leisure destination in Manchester. We are seeking experienced Senior Construction Managers and Chief Engineers to provide technical leadership and deliver a complex, high-profile project.

Reporting into the project leadership, you will manage engineering and construction teams, coordinate with design, procurement and commercial functions, and drive safety, quality and programme adherence on site in Manchester.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Construction Manager, Chief Engineer or similar on major projects.
• Strong leadership and technical delivery capability across construction and engineering teams.
• Experience coordinating engineers, site teams and subcontractors with multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership across construction and engineering activities, promoting safety, quality and collaboration.
• Coordinate engineering, site management and subcontractors to ensure timely project delivery.
• Ensure designs, methods and procedures meet regulations, specifications and industry standards.
• Align design, procurement and construction activities with the project programme.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation measures across design, procurement and construction.

The Senior Construction Manager / Chief Engineer opportunity

We are interested in hearing from experienced Senior Construction Managers and Chief Engineers who are looking for their next career opportunity and would be interested in working on Therme Manchester.

Reporting into the senior project leadership team, you will provide strong technical, construction and leadership direction to support the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of the project.

You will lead and coordinate teams of engineers, site management and subcontractors, ensuring that construction, engineering and design activities are effectively aligned with programme, quality, safety and commercial objectives.

This is an opportunity to work on a major and complex construction project in Manchester, developing your experience while playing a key role in delivering a landmark destination.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership across construction and engineering activities, promoting a strong culture of safety, quality and collaboration.
• Lead and coordinate engineering, site management, works teams and subcontractors to ensure effective project delivery.
• Oversee construction engineering activities, ensuring designs, methodologies and procedures are appropriate and compliant with relevant regulations, specifications and industry standards.
• Coordinate design, engineering, procurement and construction activities to ensure alignment with the project programme.
• Monitor project progress and identify risks and opportunities across design, procurement and construction activities, implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
• Identify, manage and mitigate technical and construction risks while supporting value and performance improvements.
• Work closely with the project and commercial teams to support delivery within programme and budget requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other key stakeholders.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and technical guidance to engineering and construction teams.
• Set and manage short- and long-term objectives, ensuring alignment with wider project goals.
• Contribute to internal and external project reporting, providing clear updates on progress, risks, opportunities and technical matters.
• Maintain accurate and auditable records relating to engineering decisions, approvals, technical changes and construction activities.

Your profile

We are looking for experienced construction and engineering leaders who have a strong track record of delivering large-scale or complex construction projects.

You will ideally:

• Have proven experience as a Senior Construction Manager, Chief Engineer, Construction Manager or similar senior delivery role on major construction projects.
• Have strong technical and construction knowledge, with the ability to lead complex construction activities and multidisciplinary teams.
• Have experience managing and coordinating engineers, site teams, subcontractors and wider project stakeholders.
• Have a strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, design coordination and project delivery.
• Be experienced in identifying and managing construction and technical risks.
• Have excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Be commercially aware and able to understand the impact of construction decisions on programme, cost and project performance.
• Be a strong advocate for health, safety and wellbeing, with a proven commitment to maintaining high standards across project delivery.
• Have experience working collaboratively with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
• Hold an SMSTS qualification and valid CSCS card.
