Job summary

Zero Point Motion is seeking a Software Engineer – Experimental Automation & Data Systems to bridge hardware and software for complex experiments. You will work with physicists, MEMS, electronics, and FPGA teams to make systems observable, automatable, and scalable through software.

The role focuses on automation, data systems, and tooling to run large datasets reliably, with an emphasis on usable interfaces and robust design.

Qualifications

• Strong Python programming experience, especially for automation and data work.
• Ability to coordinate software with real hardware and experiments.
• Experience handling large datasets and building analysis pipelines.
• Solid mathematical grounding applicable to data analysis.
• Background in robotics, autonomy, or control systems is a plus.
• Embedded, low-level or hardware-facing software exposure is valuable.
• Experience building internal tools or GUIs for technical users.
• Experience with ML/AI is a bonus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Automate experimental setups and test rigs with reliable software.
• Develop data pipelines for ingestion, processing, analysis, and visualization.
• Interface with sensors, actuators, electronics, embedded systems, and FPGAs.
• Design robust control software and scalable software architectures.
• Build clear, usable GUIs and internal tools for scientists and engineers.
• Own the software you ship and continuously improve it after deployment.
