Job summary

South Tyneside Council is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support learning at Hebburn Lakes Primary School. The role is Term Time Only (37 hours per week) with a fixed-term contract for 1 year ending 31 August 2027, starting September 2026.

You will work under the guidance of teaching staff to support pupils, assist with planning and resources, and help manage the classroom. The position may involve classroom or outdoor activities and supervision during short-term teacher absences.

Responsibilities

• Work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the Teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.
• Assist the Teacher in the planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.
• Staff may supervise whole classes occasionally during short-term absence of Teachers.
• Primary focus is to maintain good order and keep pupils on task.
