Job summary

Brent Primary School is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join its EYFS ASD Resource Base from September 2026. The role involves supporting six children with Autism (ASD) within a purpose-built unit attached to a mainstream primary school.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with Autism (ASD) in EYFS or SEND settings.
  • Ability to follow guidance from senior staff and deliver planned activities.
  • Knowledge of sensory regulation and communication strategies (PECS, Makaton) is advantageous.
  • Patient, proactive and capable of working well in a close-knit team.

Responsibilities

  • Support a small group of six children with Autism (ASD) throughout the school day within the specialist resource base.
  • Work collaboratively with two other Teaching Assistants to provide a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.
  • Deliver learning activities planned by the EYFS Lead, adapting approach to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage communication, independence, social interaction and emotional regulation through play-based learning.
  • Support transitions, personal care (where required), sensory regulation and daily routines.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and consistent approaches to help children feel secure and ready to learn.
