A leading organization is seeking an experienced Cafe Worker and Skilled Baker to support a training programme for women facing multiple disadvantages. The successful candidate will teach baking skills while contributing to cafe operations, enhancing employability skills in a supportive environment.
We’re looking for someone with experience of baking cakes to a high standard and the ability to use these skills to teach other women to bake. You will be involved in the Friday morning teaching sessions for our women on our training programme as we teach them how to bake the cakes we sell in the cafe.
As a key member of our small staff team, you will contribute to the day to day running of our cafe. Duties will include barista work, customer service, preparing and serving a menu of light lunches and snacks, stock ordering, cleaning and upkeep of the premises and being a valuable member of our small team.
You will additionally be required to open and close the cafe by prior agreement. It is currently anticipated that this will happen once a week, plus occasional other days.
The programme you will teach on is for women who have experienced multiple disadvantages. We need someone who is personable and able to adapt their teaching style and approach to the individuals on the training programme.
We adopt a holistic approach throughout our programme, offering support in a trauma informed space. We journey with our women to help them develop employability skills and move into an affirming and positive future. We are looking for someone who shares this vision.
Job Requirements and Abilities
Skilled professional baker competent in baking cakes
Skilled & able to teach others how to bake in a group setting
Motivated & hard working
Copes well in stressful environment
Ability to multitask and manage competing demands in a training environment
Confident managing group dynamics whilst championing empowerment and choice
A champion of The Wren Bakery’s organisational values
Experienced in working with women from disadvantaged backgrounds
Managing expectations, behaviour & dynamics of the training cohort, maintaining a professional & focussed learning environment at all times, with an end goal of employability
Mentoring the women in our cafe environment alongside other paid staff members
Keeping the training kitchen clean and having high expectations of cleanliness and food hygiene from the trainees
Following & implementing The Wren Bakery’s Safeguarding Procedures
Working closely with other paid staff members to implement reflective practice to ensure trainees are receiving the best opportunities possible
Ensuring a trauma-informed approach to training, whilst championing our trainees at all times.
