Job summary

Google DeepMind is seeking an exceptional editorial leader and writer to drive the Institute's publishing desk, translating frontier AI research into accessible narratives. This role combines flagship writing with mentoring a team of researchers and writers, partnering with the Managing Director to shape arguments and ensure timely publication.

You will supervise copy-editing, fact-checking, and style governance, and collaborate across operations, communications, and leadership to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 14 years of experience in technical writing, journalism, or editorial management
• Experience managing an editorial desk or overseeing a team of writers to deliver content on deadline.
• Experience translating scientific or technical concepts into accessible narratives for audiences.
• Experience in copy-editing, proofreading, and maintaining house style guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Act as an executive technical writer, drafting complex flagship DMI publications.
• Provide editorial guidance to the writing team to realise publication priorities on complex AGI topics.
• Own the final copy-editing, fact-checking, and proofreading process, acting as the gatekeeper for house style, accessibility, and standards.
• Manage formatting, citation checks, and technical upload of content into the CMS as the final checkpoint before publication.
• Coordinate with operations and communications to ensure content meets feedback SLAs and is prepared for promotional channels.
