Job summary

The University of Glasgow is seeking a talented researcher to join a NERC-funded project on sex-specific fitness landscapes in the evolution of egg-laying vs live-birth. You will work with renowned researchers and international partners, contributing to publications, proposals, and project leadership.

The role involves planning and conducting independent or collaborative research, analysing genome-scale datasets, and helping supervise students.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) in a relevant subject or cognate discipline
  • Essential: Theoretical and practical knowledge of evolutionary biology, genomics and computational biology
  • Essential: Up-to-date knowledge of the wider subject area (evolutionary biology)
  • Essential: Experience analysing and interpreting genome-scale NGS datasets
  • Desirable: PhD or equivalent with emerging independence; related experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct research aligned to project deliverables and strategy
  • Document research output and analyze data, maintain records/databases
  • Publish research in international journals and prepare proposals for funding
  • Present work at international/national conferences and seminars
  • Identify potential funding sources and help develop proposals
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the group and wider community
  • Mentor and train students and junior staff
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to budgets and expenditure
  • Carry out teaching activities as assigned by the PI/Head of School
  • Keep up to date with advances in the field and engage in CPD
  • Undertake other duties as assigned and support the university's strategic plan
