Job summary

Buckfast Abbey in Buckfastleigh is seeking an Events Assistant Apprentice to join our Food & Beverage team. You’ll earn £10.10 per hour while learning on the job and studying towards a Level 2 Food & Beverage Team Member apprenticeship.

No previous hospitality experience is required—just a positive attitude, reliability and willingness to learn. 40 hours per week over 5 days, including weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at minimum Grade 3 (preferable)
  • Willingness to learn and friendly attitude
  • Good communication and teamwork
  • Able to work in a busy hospitality environment

Events Assistant Apprentice

We’re looking for our next Awesome Addition to join the Food & Beverage team at Buckfast Abbey.

If you’re friendly, enjoy working with people and want to build a career in hospitality, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

As a Hospitality Apprentice, you’ll gain hands‑on experience whilst studying towards a nationally recognised Level 2 Food & Beverage Team Member qualification. You’ll learn how to deliver outstanding customer service, serve food and drinks, handle bookings and payments, and become a valued member of a busy hospitality team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to earn great pay while you learn and develop skills that can take you anywhere in the hospitality industry.

What you’ll be doing

As part of our friendly Food & Beverage team, you’ll help create memorable experiences for our guests by:

  • Serving food and drinks to customers
  • Preparing and delivering refreshments
  • Providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Handling payments and operating tills
  • Taking bookings and customer enquiries
  • Supporting day-to‑day hospitality operations
  • Working closely with colleagues across the hospitality team
  • Collaborating with kitchen staff to deliver excellent service
  • Ensuring dining and service areas are clean, organised and welcoming
  • Learning how to promote products and maximise sales opportunities
  • Following food safety, health and safety, and hygiene procedures
  • Helping create a positive experience for every guest

No two days are ever the same. One day you might be serving guests at a busy lunch service, and the next you could be supporting a special event or hospitality function.

Who we are looking for

You don’t need previous hospitality experience. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Qualifications required: English and Maths GCSE minimum of Grade 3 and above are preferable. (These qualifications can be achieved during the course, so this isn’t essential)
  • Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Enjoys working with people and meeting new customers
  • Has good communication skills
  • Is reliable and hardworking
  • Can stay calm and professional in a busy environment
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Takes pride in providing excellent customer service
  • Is enthusiastic, proactive and ready to get stuck in
  • Flexibility: 40 hours per week, over 5 days, weekdays and weekends, early, day and late shifts
