Job description

The Centre for Geopolitics is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised and proactive Events & Communications Coordinator to join our growing team. This role is offered full-time with some occasional need for flexibility to attend evening events and will be fixed term for 12 months due to limited funding.

Based in Fitzwilliam House, opposite the Fitzwilliam Museum in central Cambridge, the role is primarily office-based, although occasional remote working may be agreed where appropriate, generally a maximum of one day a week.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in delivering a dynamic programme of internationally recognised events and communications activities. Working with leading academics, policymakers and practitioners, you will help ensure the smooth delivery and promotion of a wide range of initiatives that advance the Centre's work on some of the most pressing geopolitical challenges facing the world today.

The Centre delivers around 100 events each year, both online and in person, ranging from small closed-door roundtables to major public conferences and symposia attracting audiences of over 150 participants (or occasionally over 500). As Events & Communications Coordinator, you will be at the heart of this programme, managing event logistics from planning to delivery, while helping to maximise the impact and reach of our activities through effective communications, and keeping a clear overview of the overlapping timelines of each event.

This is a varied and fast‑paced role that requires excellent organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. You will work closely with academics and programme leaders across the Centre, ensuring events are delivered to a high professional standard and that key deadlines are met.

Alongside event management responsibilities, you will contribute to the promotion of the Centre's work through our website, social media channels and other communications platforms. We welcome applicants who can bring fresh ideas for reaching and engaging new audiences.

Reporting to the Centre Coordinator, the postholder will work as part of a collaborative team.

You will be a confident and highly organised administrator with excellent attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills. You will enjoy managing a busy and varied workload, taking initiative, and working independently when required. Experience of organising multiple, largescale, public‑standing events and supporting communications activities through a variety of platforms is essential, as are outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and a truly unflappable nature.

Most importantly, you will be a reliable and adaptable team player who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys helping others deliver ambitious projects successfully.

Informal enquiries about the role are welcomed and should be directed to Charis Whitcombe on cw827@cam.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is midnight (BST) on Sunday 27 September 2026. Interviews are planned for the week commencing 04 October 2026, subject to change.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
