Job Description:
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive EV Charging Planning Manager to lead the planning and application process for our electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of EV charging sites across public, private, and commercial land portfolios. You will oversee the full lifecycle of planning activities — from feasibility through to approved application — ensuring compliance with local authority guidelines, utility requirements, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and application strategy for EV charging installations, ensuring all necessary permissions are obtained.
- Coordinate with local authorities, planning consultants, and internal teams to secure approvals (e.g., planning permission, grid connection applications, wayleaves, permits).
- Manage the submission and tracking of DNO applications and planning applications.
- Evaluate the technical feasibility of proposed sites, considering grid constraints, zoning, and infrastructure needs.
- Oversee stakeholder engagement, including public consultations, council meetings, and liaison with landowners.
- Maintain accurate project tracking records using internal systems (e.g., Salesforce, GIS tools).
- Mitigate project risks by proactively identifying planning or regulatory issues early in the process.
- Support the development team with the preparation of project documentation, including site layouts, design briefs, and environmental impact assessments.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in infrastructure, utilities, transport, or renewable energy planning (EV charging sector strongly preferred).
- Proven track record of successful planning application submissions and approvals.
- Strong working knowledge of UK planning regulations, DNO processes, and wayleave/legal requirements.
- Experience liaising with planning authorities, utilities, and contractors.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with project management tools and planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, or ArcGIS) is advantageous.
- Relevant degree in planning, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline (desirable).
- Passion for sustainable transport and clean energy.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving sector.
- Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams.
