Job description

Our client is a multi-national freight forwarder, they now have a vacancy for a European and UK Road Operations Assistant at their location in Redditch, Worcestershire. This is a very exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join a company that is rapidly expanding and offers excellent progression within the business.

This position forms part of the existing road freight operations team. It requires the jobholder to participate in the day road freight operations and all of the related administration. To build relationships with the Existing clients and deliver a high standard of customer care at all times.

We are ideally looking for someone with European transport or freight experience, however if you have UK transport experience and have the aptitude and ambition to learn European transport we would consider this background

The role involves an element of UK Warehousing & Distribution, this is approximately 30% of the role. The main responsibility will be European freight forwarding, they have a small 8,000 sq ft warehouse and the role expects this person to help book goods in to store, offload trucks / trailers and re-load for despatch.

Duties of the role:

• Manage the day-to-day bookings of European and UK road transport jobs
• Processing where appropriate both export and import customs clearance.
• Manage the warehouse and coordinate both goods in and goods out,
• Driving a forklift and loading and unloading vehicles (FLT training provided)
• Managing the warehouse stock and reporting to customers.
• Raising job files and all appropriate paperwork
• Processing jobs through Fast Freight software system
• Extensive client liaison to include quotations, follow up, bookings and problem solving
• Extensive supplier liaison to include rate negotiations, bookings and problem solving
• Internal liaison with the Sales Team, assisting with quotations and service information
• Managing the jobs from start to finish in line with the client expectations and communicating effectively any service issues
• Maximising the gross profit by negotiating with the supplier base
• Proactively contacting the existing clients to maximise business potential
• Invoicing jobs on completion
• Populating internal analysis and key statistics
• To be involved in the operations and sales meetings, where current jobs, quotes, problems, entertaining and other relevant topics are discussed along with the previous week's trading activity

Experience / skills required.

• European Transport or Road freight forwarding operations experience.
• Customer service experience with the ability to build strong relations.
• Experience of calculating freight quotations.
• Negotiating skills to maximise gross profit.
• Strong organisational and administration skills and good IT Skills
