Job summary

Howells Recruitment is assisting a leading passive fire protection contractor in Essex to recruit an Estimator (Passive Fire). The role focuses on pricing, tender preparation, and coordination with subcontractors to deliver competitive bids for fire stopping, doors, and compartmentation works.

You will price tenders, developnotes and clarifications, and ensure accurate documentation for NEC/JCT contracts while liaising with suppliers and the programme manager to finalise tender programmes.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of commercial pricing for construction or passive fire projects.
• Knowledge of Passive Fire projects, whether as main contractor or in a wider bid.
• Experience pricing NEC/JCT contracts and different procurement routes.
• Ability to source and assess supply chain capacity to support tenders.
• Experience using estimating software to produce accurate tenders.

Responsibilities

• Provide information for bid submissions and tender documentation.
• Obtain quotations from subcontractors/suppliers for specialist elements.
• Visit prospective projects to verify contract information for tender.
• Coordinate with the Programme Manager to complete tender programme details.
• Attend pre-contract and client meetings as part of the tender process.

Job Title: Estimator (Passive Fire)
Location: Essex

We are pleased to be working with a leading specialist contractor in passive fire protection, delivering high-quality fire stopping, fire doors, and compartmentation works across a wide range of sectors including residential, healthcare, education, and commercial projects. Responsibilities:

• Provide all information necessary for inclusion within the written bid submission.
• Liaise with subcontractors/suppliers to obtain competitive/accurate quotations for specialist elements of the works.
• Visit prospective projects to verify information contained within clients contract documentation and obtain any further information required to produce the tender.
• Liaise with the Programme Manager to ensure all necessary information is provided for the production of the final tender programme.
• Attend pre-contract handover meetings, all necessary bid meetings and client meetings as requested throughout the tender process.

Experience:

• You will have a proven track record of producing the commercial pricing.
• Knowledge of Passive Fire projects either acting as main contractor or included in a wider bid
• You will have strong experience in pricing NEC/JCT contracts.
• Understanding of various forms of Procurement Process - including framework bids.
• Knowledge of system estimating software
• Preparation of notes and clarifications for tender submissions
• Demonstrate ability in the pricing of tender Preliminaries
• Ability to resource the tender through the in-depth experience of Supply Chain capacity
