Job summary

Briggs Amasco Ltd in London is seeking an Estimator to calculate tender submissions, using client drawings and site information to estimate materials, plant, overheads and profit. You will maintain quote accuracy and meet required submission dates while ensuring competitive pricing and compliance with company procedures.

The role requires ability to work with Architects drawings and site visits, with Desirable NVQ 3 in contracting operations/estimating and experience in flat roofing.

Qualifications

• NVQ 3 in Contracting Operations/Estimating (desirable; willing to work towards this qualification)
• Estimator experience in flat roofing is essential

Responsibilities

• Calculate and prepare tender submissions to deliver contracts at target profit.
• Prepare tenders/offers from drawings, specs and site visits by required return date.
• Estimate materials, plant/equipment and overheads for each contract.
• Liaise with Contracts Manager on pricing after order and communicate tender details.
• Transfer quote and order information to Britain and prepare O&M information as needed.

Job description

Title: Estimator
Location: London
Salary: Competitive +Pension
Hours: 40 (Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm, 1 hour lunch)
Qualifications: Desirable NVQ 3 in Contracting Operations/Estimating (Must be willing to work towards this qualification due to industry standards)
Experience: Estimator experience in flat roofing desired but Estimator experience is essential

PURPOSE:

• To calculate and prepare tender submissions, working out what a contract will cost to
  deliver, whilst ensuring it returns the required profit.

REPORTS TO:

• Branch Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure you maintain or improve upon the Company’s historic quote to order conversion ratio.
• Prepare tenders/offers in accordance with all of our procedures as set out on Estimating Information Sheets and by required return date.
• To prepare tenders/offers from architects drawings and/or site visits and detailed specifications provided by the client.
• To estimate the type and amount of materials necessary to deliver the contract against the agreed specifications and to offer any value engineering options available.
• To estimate the cost of plant, equipment and overheads.
• To estimate the cost of access, hoisting and protection with due regard to Health & Safety risks.
• To establish the likely progress an completion rates, including allowances for bad weather and
  other unforeseen circumstances.
• To attend any pre-order meetings arranged by Main Contractors to assist in submission of Tenders/Offers.
• To calculate a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit and presenting a tender price.
• To liaise with Contracts Manager/Supervisor, by handover meeting, on receipt of order, to communicate pricing information of the tender.
• Transfer quote and order information to Britain.
• Prepare and submit information for O & M Manuals.

AUTHORITY LIMITS:

• Profit margins to be agreed prior to submission of tenders.
• Use of preferred suppliers where possible.
• Preparation and submission of tenders to be in accordance with Company’s Competition Compliance Policy.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE OF POSITION HOLDER

Incumbents need to be articulate, numerate and demonstrate competence in:

• Adaptability/ Business Awareness/ Detail Handling/ Initiative/Planning and Organising/Roofing Industry/Plant/Safety and Communication.
• Experience of Flat Roofing Estimation is desired. Estimating experience essential
