Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment LTD are representing an established contractor in Barnsley seeking an experienced Estimator to join the commercial team. The role focuses on preparing tenders from drawings and specs, measuring quantities, and managing multiple bids with strong client and supplier liaison.

The successful candidate will have 3+ years in estimating within groundworks or reinforced concrete, with a solid grasp of first principles tendering and commercial risk assessment.

Qualifications

• At least three years' estimating experience within groundworks and/or reinforced concrete structures.
• Experience preparing tenders from first principles.
• Demonstrable experience tendering for construction or civil engineering packages.
• Experience working on projects valued up to approximately £30 million.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and technology.
• Confident measuring quantities and interpreting technical drawings.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive tenders from construction drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
• Produce detailed rates from first principles.
• Measure and take off quantities from construction drawings.
• Manage multiple tenders simultaneously at different stages.
• Lead target price reviews and tender review meetings.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Liaise with clients, consultants and design teams to obtain additional information.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value-engineering solutions.
• Attend pre-contract and post-contract meetings.
• Provide commercial insight throughout the tender process.
• Present tender information and recommendations to senior management.
• Complete detailed handovers of successful tenders to the construction delivery team.
