Job summary

Groundworks & Civil Engineering Contractor in South Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Estimator to join the South Yorkshire commercial team. You will prepare tenders for groundworks and infrastructure projects valued between £1 million and £15 million, using Evalu-8 and working with the Commercial Director and site teams.

The role requires 4+ years estimating experience, a degree or HNC/HND in a construction discipline, and strong numerical and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4+ years estimating experience within groundworks and/or civil engineering
• Tendering experience on projects £1m–£15m
• Proficiency with Evalu-8 estimating software
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, or related discipline
• Experience working with volume housebuilder clients
• Long-term career progression within a national contractor

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates and tenders for groundworks and civil engineering projects.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to assess scope and requirements.
• Utilise Evalu-8 estimating software to compile and present comprehensive cost breakdowns.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
• Prepare bills of quantities, schedules, and supporting documentation as required.
• Liaise with the Commercial Director, Quantity Surveyors, and site teams to ensure estimates reflect practical construction methods.
• Contribute to value engineering and alternative design solutions to enhance project profitability.
• Attend pre- and post-tender meetings with clients and internal teams.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of market rates, materials, and industry trends.
