Job summary

Morson Edge is seeking an experienced Estimator for civil engineering EHV power projects based in Wigan. The role focuses on detailed cost estimation for earthworks, foundations, drainage, roads, ducting, and cable installation on substations and related works.

You will manage the full tender lifecycle from ITT review to submission, coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure compliant, commercially viable bids delivered on time.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering estimating, preferably within EHV power or related sectors.
  • Strong first principles estimating capability.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse technical drawings and tender documentation.
  • Proven experience managing full tender lifecycle and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in preparing programmes, plans, and submission documents.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess all Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation
  • Prepare cost estimates for EHV substation civils and cable installation works using first principles
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations for materials and subcontract packages
  • Manage tender enquiries and ITTs from initiation to submission within deadlines
  • Organise and attend site visits as required
  • Coordinate preparation of tender programmes, drawings, and submission documents
  • Liaise with specialist subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments to compile tender responses
  • Conduct detailed commercial reviews and risk analysis prior to submission
  • Ensure professional packaging and delivery of all bids
  • Follow up with clients for feedback and attend post-tender meetings

Estimator – Civil engineering/EHV Power – Wigan - Permanent - Competitive Salary – Office Based

Summary

Our client, a specialist civil engineering construction company operating within the Extra High Voltage (EHV) Power sector, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for electricity substation civil works and EHV cable installation projects. This includes earthworks, groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete foundations, roads, trough-laying, ducting, cable pulling, and temporary works. You will manage the entire tender process from reviewing ITT documentation to submission, ensuring all bids are competitive, compliant, and commercially viable.

The role requires strong first principles estimating skills, the ability to obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, and the preparation of programmes, plans, and submission documents. You will liaise closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality tender packages within deadlines.
