Job summary

RTL Group in Cheadle Hulme is seeking an experienced Estimator to price civil engineering, groundworks and RC frame packages, producing competitive tenders with strong margins. The role is temp to perm with a hands-on approach to pricing and tender preparation.

You will read drawings and specifications, take-off quantities, source quotations, analyse costs and present clear values to win the right work while managing risk and exclusions.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in groundworks, civil engineering or RC frame.
• Knowledge of drainage, foundations, earthworks, highways and utilities.
• Experience with estimating software and Excel.
• Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications and contracts.
• Relevant education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; professional memberships are a plus.

• Take off quantities for labour, plant and materials across groundworks and civils schemes
• Source competitive quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors
• Break down costs, overheads and risk, and put forward value engineering or alternative methods where they add value
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings and handle clarifications
• Work closely with procurement, project managers and site teams so what is priced matches what is delivered
• Prepare full handover packs when a tender is won, highlighting risks, assumptions and exclusions
• Keep market rates current and maintain a strong network of suppliers and subcontractors

A well-established, self-delivering groundworks and civil engineering contractor is looking to add an experienced Estimator to its team in Cheadle Hulme on a temp to perm basis. The Estimator will price civil engineering, groundworks and reinforced concrete frame packages, producing competitive tenders that win the right work at the right margin. The Estimator Role

Responsibilities

• Build accurate estimates from drawings, specifications and tender documents
• Take off quantities for labour, plant and materials across groundworks and civils schemes
• Source competitive quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors
• Break down costs, overheads and risk, and put forward value engineering or alternative methods where they add value
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings and handle clarifications

About You

• The successful Estimator will have a proven track record in groundworks, civil engineering or RC frame, with groundworks as your core strength.
• Sound knowledge of drainage, foundations, earthworks, highways and utilities
• Confident using Valesco or similar estimating software, plus Excel
• Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications and contracts
• HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying; RICS or CIOB membership is an advantage
• Organised enough to run several tenders at once against tight deadlines
