Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking an Estates and Facilities Assistant for the Wellingborough campus. The role covers security, maintenance, portering, cleaning and driving to keep the site safe and well‑maintained.

You will patrol, monitor CCTV, manage access, support compliance, carry out minor repairs, and provide flexible cover across campuses. A full driving licence and the ability to work weekends are desirable.

  • Experience working with the public and young people and willingness to undertake training on health and safety and college procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, following procedures and resolving issues proactively.
  • Strong communication and professional conduct, with capability to de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Flexible with working patterns, including weekends, and willing to travel across sites.

Responsibilities

  • Facilities Operations & Site Services - deliver a full range of estates services including security, maintenance, portering, cleaning and driving to ensure a safe, well-maintained campus environment.
  • Security, Safety & Compliance - conduct site patrols, monitor CCTV, manage building access, perform ID checks and support fire, alarm and statutory compliance activities in line with policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance & Grounds Upkeep - undertake minor repairs, maintain buildings and equipment, manage grounds and external areas, and ensure safe access during adverse weather conditions.
  • Portering, Logistics & Event Support - provide portering services, manage deliveries, set up rooms, support events and respond to online service requests to meet operational needs.
  • Professional Practice, Flexibility & Team Contribution - work collaboratively across campuses, uphold safeguarding, EDI and health & safety standards, provide flexible cover (including weekends) and support wider college activities.

Job description

Role: Estates and Facilities Assistant

Location: Tresham College - Wellingborough Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £26,510 and £28,482 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People's pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 40 hours per week - 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time

About The Role

About You
  • Experience, Training & Operational Readiness - Experience working with the public and young people, with willingness to undertake training and develop knowledge of health and safety and college procedures.
  • Teamwork, Initiative & Problem Solving - Able to work independently and as part of a team, use initiative, follow procedures and contribute positively while resolving issues proactively.
  • Communication, Behaviour Management & Professional Conduct - Confident in handling a wide range of situations, including de-escalating challenging behaviour calmly, while maintaining professional relationships and boundaries.
  • Reliability, Flexibility & Responsiveness - Reliable and punctual with a flexible approach to working patterns, including weekends and short-notice availability to meet operational needs.
  • Professional Values, Safeguarding & Mobility - Committed to College values, safeguarding and high standards of conduct, with a full driving licence, access to a vehicle and ability to work across multiple sites.
