Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Equipment Technician to deliver, install and maintain community equipment to support vulnerable adults and carers in their homes.

The role requires practical, customer-focused individuals with a full UK driving licence and good IT/record-keeping abilities. You will work on a rota, including weekends, to help residents live independently and safely.

Qualifications

• Must have Literacy Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
• Hold a full UK driving licence and be comfortable driving larger vehicles.
• Good IT and record-keeping skills are essential.
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, install, fit, and maintain a range of community equipment in service users' homes.
• Carry out minor repairs and maintenance to equipment.
• Complete risk assessments and maintain accurate electronic records.
• Ensure equipment meets quality and safety standards, including MHRA requirements.
• Collect and recycle equipment no longer required.
• Provide advice and support to colleagues, carers and partner agencies on equipment and assistive technology.
• Deliver excellent customer service while working with diverse communities.

Equipment Technician

Grade/Salary: Band D, SCP 9-17: £27,254- £31,022 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week (service operates 7 days a week, including Bank Holidays). Successful candidates will work on a rota basis, including one weekend every six weeks.

About The Role

Essential Requirements

• Literacy Level 2 qualification (or equivalent).
• Full UK driving licence. Experience working in an installation, or similar technical environment.
• Good IT and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
