Vetted Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent equine practice near York. You can shape the role around your strengths, with options for leadership, partnership, or a mainly equine focus with supportive small animal involvement.
You'll influence clinical direction, develop the caseload, and utilise facilities including ultrasound, DR X-ray and endoscopy. A fully supportive team and growth opportunities are central to this role.
Build your equine career around the work you enjoy, with the freedom to practise your way and a genuine say in how the service develops.
An independent veterinary practice near York is seeking an experienced vet to join its thriving equine team, with expanding facilities, a well-established client base and scope for future leadership or partnership. The role can be shaped around your strengths and ambitions: predominantly equine, a true equine and small animal mix, or equine with lighter small animal involvement and support for everything else.
You’ll work with the existing team to influence clinical direction, develop the caseload and make full use of expanding facilities for horses, ponies and donkeys. There is potential to take on a supportive, collaborative leadership role within the equine team, alongside future partnership prospects for the right person.
You’ll have complete clinical freedom, without corporate protocols or sales targets. Ideas, initiatives and CPD interests are encouraged, and the practice will seriously consider further equipment investment where there is a sound clinical and practical case.
The equine facilities include eight stables, stocks, a trot-up lane, lunge ring, radiography box and padded knock-down box. Equipment includes a brand-new ultrasound system, DR X-ray, video endoscope and gastroscope, Class 4 laser, two sets of modern dental equipment and an in-house laboratory, supported by an excellent nursing team.
Successful monthly gastroscopy clinics are already established. Recent developments also include advanced dental clinics and in-house sarcoid removal clinics with visiting specialists, offering scope to develop your interests in lameness, medicine or dentistry.
For vets who enjoy mixed practice, the small animal team includes two medicine certificate holders. You can keep your involvement straightforward or take on more of the varied caseload, with back-up for surgery and complex cases if equine work is your main focus.
You’ll be at least three years qualified and confident handling routine equine work, with strong communication and client-care skills. An interest in lameness, medicine or dentistry would be welcome, as would a thoughtful approach to clinical standards and a desire to contribute to a friendly, supportive team.
Many clients have long-standing, close relationships with the practice. A recently departed vet described feeling valued, supported and encouraged to develop professionally—a useful reflection of the experience the organisation aims to offer.
Full-time work typically follows a four-day week, although part-time arrangements will be considered. The weekend out-of-hours rota is one in four or five, covering a sensible radius and a well-bonded client base.
Alongside salary from £50,000 per year, the package includes five weeks' holiday plus bank holidays, paid BEVA and MRCVS membership and VDS cover, fully funded CPD and a company pension. There is also an Employee Assistance Programme, health and wellbeing support, discounted veterinary care and a free wellness plan for your own pets. Free on-site parking and staff kennels mean you can bring your dog to work.
You must be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon and eligible to register with the RCVS to be considered for this role.
