Job summary

New Hall School in Boreham, Chelmsford, Essex, is seeking a Groom to care for horses across the Learn-to-Ride Centre and the livery yard. You will assist with daily yard operations, horse handling, welfare checks and supporting riding activities.

The role requires experience on a yard, a recognised horse-care qualification, and a full UK driving licence. The school offers a supportive Catholic independent setting with benefits and CPD.

Qualifications

• Understanding and commitment to the aims and ethos of a Catholic independent boarding and day school.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade 5 or above.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience of working on a yard.
• Experience of working with young people.
• Knowledge of stable management practices.
• Ability to administer first aid to horses.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Basic IT skills to support administrative tasks.
• Promote and maintain high standards of horse welfare and care.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day running of the yard, keeping a clean, safe and well-organised environment, and assist with maintenance, stock control and staff cover.
• Prioritise health, safety and safeguarding, perform routine checks, respond to incidents, and administer first aid within level of competence.
• Ensure high standards of horse care and welfare, including daily health checks, stable and field management, grooming and routine care.
• Prepare, exercise and manage horses, including tacking, untacking, turnout, aftercare and equipment maintenance.
• Support riding activities and lessons, including lead rein sessions and lunging where trained.
• Assist with events, visitor engagement and administrative coordination, including vet and farriery visits and record keeping.
