The General Medical Council (GMC) is hiring an ED&I Adviser to embed fairness, inclusion and equality across policies and decision-making. You will work with a small specialist team and engage external stakeholders to drive regulatory fairness in our work.
You will coordinate a range of ED&I projects and governance activities, using data and evidence to identify opportunities for improvement and to inform policy development within the GMC in Manchester.
The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students, doctors, physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards and take action when they are not met. The medical profession is diverse, as are the patients we help to protect. Equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) is therefore integral to everything we do both as a regulator and as an employer.
We are committed to delivering fair, inclusive and compassionate regulation, recognising the diverse experiences and needs of the professionals we regulate, and helping to create inclusive healthcare environments that support safe patient care for everyone.
Our ED&I commitments are driven by our ambition to make progress in tackling persistent inequalities, and to achieve positive changes and outcomes for the diverse groups we work with and work for. Having a diverse and inclusive workforce, both within the GMC and in healthcare systems across the UK, is vital.
As an ED&I Adviser, you will work as part of a small team of specialists, providing expert advice, guidance and practical support across the GMC. You will help colleagues embed fairness, inclusion and equality considerations into our policies, processes and decision-making, supporting our commitment to fair regulation. You will also engage with external stakeholders representing diverse groups, helping to build trust, gather insight and inform our approach to tackling inequality and promoting fairness.
You will coordinate and support a wide range of ED&I projects, governance processes and stakeholder engagement activities, helping to shape and deliver initiatives that improve experiences and outcomes for both our people and the wider communities we serve. Using data, insight and evidence to identify opportunities for improvement, you will support colleagues to apply equality duties, promote fair and inclusive approaches, and ensure our work is informed by the principles of regulatory fairness.
This is a rewarding opportunity to influence organisational culture, shape policy development and contribute to strategic decision-making, while making a tangible impact on how fairness and inclusion are experienced across the organisation and helping to build a system of medical regulation that is fairer, more inclusive and trusted by all.
