Job summary

Service Care Solutions is recruiting an Environmental Services Assistant for a local authority in the UK. The role is 37.5 hours per week on a 2‑week contract, paying £13.69 per hour PAYE or £17.70 per hour Umbrella.

Responsibilities include addressing environmental issues, cleaning and disinfection of properties, drainage work, inspections, and safe operation of council vehicles. A driving licence is required, along with basic literacy/numeracy and health & safety awareness.

Qualifications

• A valid driving licence and the ability to drive council vehicles.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and following instructions.
• Understanding of health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
• Comfort working in unpleasant, dirty, or hazardous environments.
• Physical strength to lift, move, and carry heavy or bulky items.
• A self-motivated approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills with a professional, customer-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

• Responding to environmental issues such as fly-tipping, illegally dumped waste, and animal carcasses.
• Carrying out clearance, cleaning, and disinfection of contaminated or verminous properties, including handling faeces and sharps.
• Assisting with collection and disposal of condemned food items.
• Supporting drainage investigations and remedial work, including sealing drains.
• Conducting planned visits and follow-up inspections.
• Operating council vehicles safely, completing routine checks, and refuelling as required.
• Cleaning and disinfecting equipment and depot areas to maintain hygiene standards.
• Completing paperwork, job cards, and weekly timesheets accurately.
• Handling payments following proper financial procedures.
• Adhering to all health and safety guidelines, including the use of PPE.
