Job description

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

We are looking for an Environmental Project Manager (EPM) to join our National Environmental Assessment and Service team (NEAS). The EPM is an environmental technical specialist, supporting delivery of the FCERM capital programme and contributing to the achievement of corporate environmental and sustainability targets by providing specialist advice.

NEAS manage the environmental assessment of many of the Environment Agency's capital projects and the Strategic Environmental Assessment of relevant Strategies and Plans to ensure projects fully comply with environmental legislation and policy.

This advert is for national recruitment. We currently have a vacancy in the Eastern Hub. However, applicants successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered roles in other teams nationally if vacancies arise.

Duties will include:

- Providing assurance on compliance with environmental legislation, conformance with Government and Environment Agency plans, policies and strategies for the environment and conformance with the Environment Agency's sustainability strategy.

- Screening Environment Agency projects to determine environmental legislative requirements and advise on environmental risks and opportunities, consents and approvals.

- Providing expert advice on legal requirements and processes for a range of environmental assessments, including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

- Ensuring environmental services are incorporated into scope of services for delivery partners and assure the quality of environmental products.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.

The team

NEAS is divided into 6 operational Hubs, each being led by an Operational Unit Manager, supported by Principal Environmental Specialists and Team Leaders. Each team works collaboratively with our environmental supply partners to provide technical expertise and support day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme.

You'll be a member of a team comprised of colleagues with professional backgrounds in archaeology/heritage, ecology, environmental assessment, sustainability, carbon and landscape design.

Experience/skills required

Essential:

Educated in environmental science or a related subject at degree level

Understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment

Strong communication and influencing skills

Desirable:

Membership (or working towards membership) of a professional environmental institute

Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management, however in house training is available.

Involvement in infrastructure projects

Experience in managing the environmental risk in projects

Experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams

You will be offered comprehensive induction/training and will be given the time and space to learn while performing the role. You will be given opportunities for CPD and training.

Contact and additional information

Benefits include generous pension provision and leave entitlement. Our flexible working supports a healthy work/life balance and offers numerous choices to accommodate the demands that personal commitments may present. The role is a hybrid role, as there is an expectation to attend meetings both in the office and other external locations, but some home working is possible. Excellent training and learning opportunities are available, including personal and professional development

Travel to other offices and sites will be required.
