Job summary

MBDA Environmental Project Engineer role requiring experience in environmental engineering within defence, and strong knowledge of vibration, testing and environmental standards. You will work with Systems Engineering, Architecture, Design and Proving teams to define environmental requirements and robust product designs.

You will manage proving strategies across the product lifecycle and interface with customers to plan and deliver work packages on time and within cost constraints, contributing

Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Experience planning and delivering small to medium work packages.
  • Knowledge of environmental engineering within the defence sector or relevant industry.
  • Knowledge of vibration, shock, temperature and humidity environments.
  • Understanding of environmental test processes, test measurements and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of international Environmental Standards (DEF STAN 00-035 / AECTP 300 / AECTP 400 / Mil-std 810).
  • Analytical mind with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Generate environmental requirements and support robust product designs.
  • Define and manage cost-effective proving strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with teams to deliver environmental test programmes.
  • Act as technical focal point across concept to in-service support stages.
  • Engage with customers to plan, deliver and monitor work packages within delegated authority.
  • Assist EE&F strategy to adopt emerging technologies and threats.

Job description

Salary: Up to £55,000, depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2 - 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

As an Environmental Project Engineer you will expected to work closely and build relationships with a range of MBDA functions, sectors and Chief Engineers including Systems Engineering, Architecture, Design and Proving teams.

You will provide technical expertise in generating environmental requirements, supporting the development of robust product designs and defining and managing cost effective proving strategies throughout the product development cycle. You will also work closely with our existing team of highly experienced project and test engineers to define and deliver environmental test programmes.

You will provide a technical focal point for all stages of the product lifecycle, through concept definition, design aid, formal qualification and certification and onto in-service support. Our expertise covers the areas of: environmental requirement specification and management; definition of proving methodologies; certification; project management; data analysis; simulation and modelling and testing in climatic, mechanical (vibration and shock) and fatigue.

You will act as a technical interface with customers in the delivery of technical work packages. Including the planning, delivery and monitoring of assigned work packages, making engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority to ensure projects are delivered to plan.

Some of the key challenges for the role include:

  • Effectively dealing with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently, cross-projects.

  • Interaction with the customer community at a high level, maintaining integrity of engineering outputs.

  • Ensuring adherence to delivery timescales and costs, whilst supporting complex technical engineering projects

  • Contributing to EE&F strategy to keep pace with emerging technologies and threats.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience.
