About the Company - Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £150M and nearly 700 staff. The UK operations are entirely based at Summerfield, Kidderminster.

About the Role - Roxel is undergoing rapid growth, involving the design of new processes and equipment, as well as the management of existing processes to uphold the highest standards of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE). We are seeking a SHE Officer to join our established team, ensuring compliance with legislative and organizational requirements, with a strong emphasis on environmental standards, while addressing all aspects of health and safety.

Responsibilities -

  • Developing and implementing SHE policies and procedures in line with UK legislation and organisational standards.
  • Conducting regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Provide guidance on risk assessments, hazard identification, and control measures for all operational activities.
  • Investigate SHE incidents and near-misses, preparing detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Monitoring and analysing SHE performance metrics, preparing reports for management.
  • Coordinating emergency response plans and conducting drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies and ensuring timely submission of required reports and documentation, with a particular focus on environmental reporting.
  • Promoting a positive and proactive culture of safety and environmental awareness within Roxel UK.
  • Support relevant SHE improvement projects as required.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, regulations, and best practices in health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Deputize in the absence of the H&S and Environmental Manager, assuming full responsibility for managing occupational safety, and environmental policies, and day to day management of the team during their absence.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to site managers and employees regarding H&S and environmental issues.

Qualifications -

  • Essential Qualifications
  • Higher level qualification in science or engineering subject, such as HNC/HND.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in a science or engineering subject.
  • Membership or accreditation by a chartered institute.

Required Skills -

  • Experience in high hazard industry (preferable explosives manufacturing).
  • Experience and knowledge of the Explosive Regulations 2014 (HSE Publication L150).
  • In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance with environmental permits.

Skills -

  • Experience of safety engineering in Upper Tier COMAH sites.
  • Strong background and experience in safety engineering.
