Job summary
Trafford Council’s Private Sector Housing Team has an exciting vacancy for an Environmental Health Officer to enforce housing standards, investigate complaints of poor housing, inspect properties, and carry out follow-up work to bring homes up to current standards. The team also licenses Houses in Multiple Occupation and works to bring empty properties back into use.
The role offers flexible working with hybrid home/office arrangements and field-based duties; hours may fall outside core times.
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Environmental Health.
- Hold the Housing Health and Safety Rating System qualification.
- Recent experience and specialist knowledge relating to private sector housing enforcement.
- Ability to prioritise work and manage a busy workload and deliver to tight deadlines.
- A passion and pride in your work.
- Excellent written and communication skills.

Trafford’s Private Sector Housing Team have an exciting vacancy for an Environmental Health Officer to join the team. The Environmental Health Officers in the team work to support the Team Leader (Private Sector Housing) in enforcing a wide range of legislative requirements in the area of private sector housing. This includes the investigation of complaints of poor housing conditions and undertaking inspections of private sector housing to assess potential hazards and carrying out any follow up or enforcement to bring the property to current standards. In addition, the team license Houses in Multiple Occupation and undertake work to bring empty properties in the borough back into use.
This role offers the flexibility of hot desking / home working together with field based work.
You will have:
- A degree or diploma in Environmental Health.
- Hold the Housing Health and Safety Rating System qualification
- Recent experience and specialist knowledge relating to private sector housing enforcement.
- The ability to prioritise work and manage a busy workload and deliver to tight deadlines.
- A passion and pride in your work.
