Norfolk Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Housing professional for its Private Sector Housing team in Norfolk. You will manage a varied caseload, carry out HHSRS inspections, and enforce housing standards to protect residents.

You’ll work with a supportive team, handle enforcement under Housing Act 2004, and assist with licensing and regulatory compliance to raise housing conditions.

• Experience in Private Sector Housing and Local Government.
• Sound knowledge of housing legislation and HHSRS.
• Ability to inspect for disrepair and property licensing.
• Experience in report writing and enforcement under Housing Act 2004.

Take the next step in your Private Sector Housing career. An ambitious Norfolk council is looking to add an experienced Environmental Health Housing professional to its team, helping to deliver a key frontline service that protects residents and raises housing standards.

You’ll be involved in a varied caseload, working to ensure homes are safe, compliant and fit for occupation. Joining a supportive and experienced team, you’ll play an important part in managing increased demand as the sector adapts to the introduction of the Renters' Rights Act.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate housing complaints and carry out HHSRS inspections.
• Enforce housing legislation through informal and formal action.
• Inspect private rented properties for compliance with housing standards.
• Advise tenants, landlords, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare enforcement notices and maintain accurate case records.
• Support HMO licensing and regulatory compliance.
• Work with partners to improve housing conditions and protect residents.

About you

• Experience in Private Sector Housing, Environmental Health, and working in Local Government.
• Sound knowledge of housing legislation and the HHSRS.
• Practical experience in carrying out inspections for both disrepair and property licensing
• Experience in report writing and enforcement of Housing Act 2004.
• Able to build effective relationships with tenants, landlords, and partners.
• Well-organised, with the ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines.
• Ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision
