Start Date: Immediate

Ready to help build the UK's first prototype fusion power plant?
We're working with a world-leading organisation at the forefront of clean energy innovation to find an Environmental Engineer to join a high-impact programme aiming to redefine how the UK - and the world - generates power.
This role sits within the STEP Programme - one of the UK's most ambitious and high-profile energy projects - and focuses on embedding environmental protection and sustainability right at the heart of the plant's design and development.
The Role
As Environmental Engineer, you'll work alongside world-class engineers, scientists, and stakeholders to ensure that environmental responsibilities are not just tick boxes, but fundamental to how this revolutionary plant is delivered.
You'll help shape the project's approach to:
* Environmental risk and opportunity assessment
* Impact assessments and permitting
* Sustainable engineering and design integration
* Life cycle analysis (LCA)
* Regulatory engagement (e.g., EA, ONR)
* Waste and emissions strategy
* Keeping the programme aligned with ever-evolving environmental standards
This is an opportunity to directly influence one of the most important energy initiatives of our time - not in theory, but in reality.
About You
We're looking for someone with the technical know-how and professional maturity to operate in a complex, multidisciplinary, and regulated environment.
You'll need:
* A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
* Experience in an environmental role on large-scale infrastructure, nuclear, or energy projects.
* Knowledge of UK environmental legislation, permitting (EPR), and compliance frameworks.
* Familiarity with EIAs, LCAs, or sustainability reporting.
* The ability to translate environmental principles into practical engineering solutions.
Bonus points for:
* Working knowledge of UK nuclear/environmental regulators.
* Progress toward Chartered status with IEMA, CIWEM, IChemE, or similar.
* Previous involvement in emerging or advanced energy tech (fusion, nuclear, renewables).
Why Apply?
This isn't just another contract role.
This is a chance to shape a project that will influence UK energy policy and infrastructure for decades. You'll be joining a collaborative, mission-driven team where environmental performance is seen as critical to project success - not just compliance.
Please note that applicants must live in the UK and have the right to work in the UK. We cannot provide VISA sponsorship.
