The Role:

As an Environmental Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for investigating and enforcing breaches of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related legislation. Your primary focus will be on tackling issues such as fly-tipping, littering, waste management offenses, and other environmental infringements. This role requires strong investigative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Enforcement Activities: Investigate reports of environmental offenses, gather evidence, and take enforcement action in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.
  2. Fly-tipping and Littering: Patrol designated areas to identify and address fly-tipping and littering. Issue fixed penalty notices and prepare case files for prosecution if necessary.
  3. Waste Management: Monitor compliance with waste regulations, including illegal disposal and unlicensed waste sites.
  4. Investigations: Conduct investigations, gather witness statements, physical and photographic evidence, and prepare reports.
  5. PACE Interviews: Conduct interviews with suspects under PACE guidelines.
  6. Court Attendance: Present evidence and act as a witness in court proceedings.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with local authorities, police, community groups, and the public to raise awareness and encourage compliance.
  8. Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of investigations and enforcement actions.
  9. Legislation Updates: Stay informed about legislative changes and enforcement best practices.
