London / Hybrid

Up to £55,000 (DOE) + Benefits

Full-Time, Permanent

Are you an environmental specialist / scientist with experience in shaping bids, tenders, and biodiversity projects? Interested in shaping the future of nature-based consultancy? We’re working with an innovative consultancy delivering data-led environmental projects across the UK and internationally – and they’re looking for a passionate Principal Ecologist to join their team.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique role for someone who thrives at the intersection of ecology, sustainability, and project delivery. You’ll lead strategic nature and biodiversity projects, from early design through to delivery, helping clients meet regulatory goals while supporting ecological outcomes on the ground. The role is varied, collaborative, and ideal for someone with a consultancy background seeking real-world impact.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead and deliver a range of high-impact biodiversity and environmental advisory projects
  • Develop practical frameworks and field survey designs to support monitoring and compliance
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams and external partners through all phases of project lifecycles
  • Produce robust technical reports, stakeholder updates, and strategic insights
  • Shape new business opportunities through client engagement and proposal development
  • Keep abreast of evolving environmental policy and regulatory frameworks (UK & global)
  • Support internal project performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience within ecological consultancy or environmental advisory
  • Track record in project delivery across biodiversity, natural capital, or ecological impact areas
  • Strong working knowledge of national/international regulatory and voluntary biodiversity frameworks (e.g. biodiversity net gain, PS6, TNFD, etc.)
  • Excellent communicator with experience producing high-quality written deliverables
  • Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including private sector, NGOs, and research bodies
  • Familiarity with digital tools, geospatial data, or biodiversity monitoring tech is an advantage
  • Relevant academic background in ecology, environmental science, or a related field

Why Apply?

  • Join a purpose-driven team working across some of the world’s most urgent environmental challenges
  • Play a lead role in shaping projects that blend ecology, data, and sustainability
  • Flexible, inclusive working environment with scope for growth and innovation
  • Competitive salary and long-term progression opportunities
