Role Purpose
The Environmental Compliance Manager leads and manages the Client’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) across the EMEA and AMS portfolio. Serving as the primary subject matter expert for the client account, this role drives strategic and operational environmental governance, ensures regulatory compliance, and manages sustainability reporting. The position supports the achievement of client sustainability objectives through effective engagement with operational teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the EMS across the EMEA and AMS portfolio.
- Ensure all EMS documentation, procedures, registers, and aspects and impacts assessments remain current and effective.
- Coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits and certification activities.
- Monitor and drive the closure of audit findings, corrective actions, and environmental improvement plans.
- Conduct the Annual Management Review for the EMEA region.
Environmental Compliance & Governance
- Provide environmental compliance guidance and support to operational teams and stakeholders.
- Monitor environmental compliance obligations relating to waste, recycling, hazardous materials, pollution prevention, emissions, water management, and resource consumption.
- Ensure environmental incidents, spills, non-conformances, and near misses are investigated thoroughly and corrective actions are implemented.
Sustainability & Client Reporting
- Lead all sustainability reporting requirements for the client account across EMEA.
- Collect, validate, analyze, and submit environmental performance data—including energy consumption, carbon emissions, waste generation, recycling, and water consumption to the client.
- Monitor environmental KPIs, identify opportunities for performance improvement, and provide annual performance reports for client review.
Subject Matter Expert & Leadership
- Act as the primary environmental advisor for the client account across EMEA.
- Provide technical guidance on environmental legislation, regulatory changes, ISO 14001 requirements, and sustainability best practices.
- Represent CBRE during client meetings, environmental reviews, and audit activities.
- Develop and deliver environmental training, awareness sessions, and communications across the account.
- Influence operational teams, project teams, supply chain partners, and client stakeholders throughout EMEA without direct line management authority.
Decision Making & Control
- This position exercises independent judgment regarding environmental risks, legal compliance obligations, reporting requirements, and environmental performance issues. The incumbent is responsible for making recommendations for improvement initiatives, corrective actions, and sustainability programs, providing expert advice that informs operational and strategic decisions.
Person Specification
Education
- Essential: Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; IEMA Practitioner Membership (PIEMA) or equivalent professional membership.
- Desirable: IEMA Full Membership (MIEMA); Environmental Management qualification at Diploma level or above; Lead Auditor qualification for ISO 14001.
Skills
- Essential: Strong environmental compliance and sustainability reporting skills; excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities; strong analytical and data management skills; high proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
- Desirable: Experience using environmental reporting and management platforms.
Knowledge
- Essential: Detailed knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems; strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements across EMEA; knowledge of sustainability reporting methodologies and environmental metrics.
- Desirable: Knowledge of ESG frameworks and sustainability disclosure requirements; knowledge of carbon accounting and greenhouse gas reporting principles.
Experience
- Essential: Experience managing ISO 14001 management systems; experience leading environmental audits and compliance programs; experience managing environmental reporting and sustainability performance data; experience working with multiple stakeholders across EMEA.
- Desirable: Experience within facilities management, corporate real estate, or integrated facilities services; experience supporting financial services clients.
