Job summary

Mining Remediation Authority is seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to join the senior advisory team. You will provide trusted environmental guidance across projects funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, influencing decisions from conception through delivery across England, Scotland and Wales.

You will travel across Great Britain to oversee environmental controls, shape surveys and consenting strategies, and ensure practical, risk-based recommendations are

We're looking for an experienced environmental practitioner to join our specialist team supporting nationally significant public safety, mine water treatment, river pollution prevention and land remediation projects across Great Britain.

You’ll bring sound environmental judgement, strong technical expertise and the ability to provide clear, proportionate advice across a varied portfolio of projects.

You’ll have:

• Experience of independently advising live, multidisciplinary projects.
• Applied knowledge of environmental assessment, planning, consenting or permitting, including Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment.
• Experience of engaging with regulators and statutory stakeholders.
• The ability to interpret evidence, review specialist work and make practical, risk-based recommendations.
• A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

We're interested in your capability, not one particular career route. You may come from consultancy, regulation, local government, infrastructure, utilities, water, environmental management or remediation.

You don't need mining experience or an exact job title. What matters is your ability to apply environmental expertise, influence decision-making and help deliver positive environmental outcomes.

About The Role

As our Environmental Advisor, you'll join an established technical advisory team providing trusted environmental assessment and management advice across activities funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Our teams deliver a wide range of public safety, mine water treatment, river pollution prevention and land remediation projects across England, Scotland and Wales. These projects help protect communities, improve the environment and support nature recovery across former mining areas.

Working alongside project managers, engineers and other specialists, you'll:

• Identify environmental risks, constraints and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Shape environmental surveys, assessments and consenting strategies.
• Advise on planning, permitting and regulatory requirements.
• Review and assure work delivered by consultants and contractors.
• Engage with regulators and environmental stakeholders.
• Embed sustainability, environmental protection and nature recovery considerations into project delivery.
• Visit sites across Great Britain to understand challenges first-hand, ensure environmental controls are working effectively and help project teams find practical solutions.

This is a senior, independent role where you'll be the trusted environmental advisor, influencing decisions from project conception through to delivery. You'll have the autonomy to provide environmental advice from project conception through to delivery, seeing your recommendations implemented on the ground and making a tangible difference to communities, watercourses, habitats and landscapes.

Unlike many environmental roles where advice ends with a report, you'll remain closely involved as projects progress, giving you the opportunity to see the outcomes of your work and the impact it delivers.

Alongside flexible hybrid working, you'll join a supportive specialist team and contribute to meaningful projects that protect the environment, support nature recovery and improve communities across former mining areas.

Role location: Hybrid working (on average 2 days working out of our Mansfield office)
