Job summary

Mining Remediation Authority is looking for a Construction Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Adviser to support metal mines projects across Wales and England. The role features hybrid working with regular site visits, and oversight from an experienced central team.

You will lead practical HSW guidance, ensure compliance, and embed wellbeing into safety culture across complex remediation projects.

Responsibilities

• Support Mining Remediation Authority and clients to meet CDM 2015 duties, including Principal Designer.
• Provide practical advice at design reviews, pre-start and progress meetings.
• Review project plans and risk controls, and carry out site visits, inspections and audits.
• Challenge where standards fall short and drive corrective actions.
• Support incident investigations and complete RIDDOR reports when needed.
• Use learnings to improve HSW policies and practice.

As the dedicated Construction Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Adviser for our Metal Mines programmes, you’ll build trusted relationships, influence decisions from design through to delivery, and work with real autonomy while supported by an experienced central team.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent and hands‑on construction experience. You’ll thrive in this role if you also bring:

• the practical knowledge to apply CDM 2015 and design‑risk principles with confidence
• the ability to build trust, influence decisions and challenge contractors and project teams constructively
• sound judgement, the confidence to work independently and the resolve to act when standards fall short
• a collaborative approach that keeps people’s wellbeing at the heart of safety and compliance

You don’t need metal mining experience to make an impact here. We welcome transferable experience from civil engineering, water, utilities, infrastructure, environmental remediation, ground engineering, highways, rail, quarrying or another complex construction environment.

You’ll stay connected to the work through regular visits to rural and remote sites across Wales and England—typically up to eight visits a month, with some planned overnight stays.

About The Role

You’ll be the Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Adviser for our Metal Mines programmes, supporting pollution remediation and environmental improvement projects at abandoned mine sites across Wales and England. The work ranges from surface‑water and spoil‑heap management to mine‑water treatment and innovative remediation technologies.

Working with the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and an extensive supply chain, you’ll provide practical advice throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll help teams identify risks early, solve problems collaboratively and maintain high standards across complex projects and sites.

• support the Mining Remediation Authority and its clients to meet their duties under CDM 2015, including the Principal Designer role
• provide practical advice at design reviews, pre‑start and progress meetings
• review project plans and risk controls, and carry out site visits, inspections and audits
• challenge constructively where standards fall short and work with teams to put things right
• support incident investigations and complete RIDDOR reports where required
• use learning from projects and incidents to improve HSW policies, procedures and practice
