Equans Digital (Smart Infrastructure team) has a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Lead to deliver and oversee environmental management for various large infrastructure projects across different sectors, driving social, economic, and environmental benefits to stakeholders and local communities.

Equans Digital is an innovative SME within a large multinational organization, focused on growth and disruption in digital technology for buildings and energy management. The brand enhances user experiences through data-driven solutions, integrating IoT hardware, software, and operational services to support clients' zero-carbon transitions and improve occupant wellbeing.

Key activities

This role involves leading environmental and sustainability activities within the Smart Infrastructure team, including strategic planning, project execution, risk management, subcontractor oversight, budget control, and client communication. You will act as a primary contact for environmental matters across multiple projects, shaping the company's sustainable future.

As a senior team member, responsibilities include engaging with clients and end users throughout project phases, reporting, and issue resolution to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Strategic Planning & Implementation: Develop and implement environmental and sustainability strategies aligned with corporate ESG goals.
  2. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead EIAs, including scoping, surveys, impact prediction, mitigation, and reporting, ensuring legal compliance.
  3. Environmental Management Systems (EMS): Develop, implement, and maintain EMSs according to ISO standards.
  4. Permitting & Compliance: Obtain environmental permits, ensure ongoing legal compliance, and manage non-compliance issues.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with clients, regulators, and communities, communicating environmental aspects.
  6. Subcontractor Management: Manage environmental subcontractors, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
  7. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate environmental risks across projects.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental consultancy, managing complex projects in the UK.
  • Extensive experience with EIAs, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory interactions.
  • Proven track record in EMS development and ISO certification achievement.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Deep knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to prepare environmental reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with environmental software and modeling tools.
