Job summary

Omega is seeking a Health and Safety Manager for a part-time, 24-hour week at our Cheltenham site. You will lead H&S policy development, risk assessments, audits, investigations, and training to ensure compliance and a positive safety culture.

The role requires NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent, a relevant degree, and proven experience in engineering or aerospace sectors. First Aid certification is desirable, with strong communication and documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • First Aid certification is desirable.
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain health and safety policies and procedures aligned with legislation and practice.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits across all areas and implement control measures.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses with reports and corrective actions.
  • Provide expert advice to management and staff on health and safety matters and promote awareness.
  • Coordinate health and safety training to meet statutory requirements and internal standards.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance using KPIs and drive improvements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors and contractors to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Ensure emergency procedures and contingency plans are in place, reviewed and tested.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and employee engagement.
  • Manage documentation, records and licences for accessibility.

Health and Safety Manager - Part-time
Location

Job Type

Permanent, Part-Time – 24 Hours per week

Salary

Up to £55,000 per annum (pro-rata £36,000)

Job Purpose

To lead the development, implementation, and management of health and safety policies and procedures within the engineering and aerospace environment. The role ensures compliance with relevant legislation, promotes a positive safety culture, and minimises risks to employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures aligned with current legislation and best practice.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas to identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on health and safety matters, ensuring awareness and understanding across the organisation.
  • Coordinate health and safety training programmes to ensure all personnel meet statutory requirements and internal standards.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance using key performance indicators and suggest continuous improvements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and contractors to ensure compliance and best practice standards.
  • Ensure that emergency procedures and contingency plans are in place, regularly reviewed, and tested.
  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture that encourages employee engagement and participation.
  • Manage health and safety documentation, records, and licences to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
Required Qualifications
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Valid First Aid certification is desirable.
Education
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
  • Proven experience in a health and safety managerial role within the engineering or aerospace sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience of conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and accident investigations.
  • Experience of working with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
  • Track record of successfully implementing health and safety management systems in compliance with ISO 45001 or similar standards.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and engaging personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a part-time capacity.
  • Competence in producing clear, concise reports and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or the British Safety Council.
  • Additional qualifications or training in environmental management or quality assurance.
Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily office-based with frequent site inspections in operational and engineering environments.
  • The role requires adherence to personal protective equipment protocols and compliance with site-specific safety rules.
  • Part-time hours offer flexibility but may require occasional attendance outside standard working hours for audits or incident investigations.
