Job summary

Wax Recruitment Ltd in London is seeking an Environment Health and Safety Manager to hold overall responsibility for the health and safety approach in the Environment directorate, including waste management, street cleansing and grounds maintenance, plus contracted services.

You will work with senior leaders to provide assurance and ensure legal compliance, and lead Safety, Health and Wellbeing projects within Environment.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for Environment Directorate health and safety performance and assurance, reporting directly to the Executive Director of Environment on compliance, risk and improvement activity.
• Act as the organisation's lead competent person for Environment, Health and Safety matters, providing authoritative advice to senior management and directors.
• Provide strategic oversight of EHS risks associated with operational service delivery and major projects.
• Lead the organisation's response to regulatory inspections, enforcement notices, prosecutions and environmental incidents.
• Hold managers within the directorate accountable for their responsibilities for health and safety duties, providing guidance and practical solutions to ensure legal compliance and best practice in line with Barnet’s management system.

Job Purpose:

As a Health and Safety Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the health and safety approach in the Environment directorate. This includes directly delivered services in waste management, street cleansing and grounds maintenance, as well as contracted services in Parking, Highways and Street Lighting.

You will work directly with senior leaders and managers to provide assurance and ensure legal compliance.

You will work closely with the Executive Director of Environment, as well as the corporate Head of Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHaW) team. You will hold responsibility for the Health and Safety Management System and delivery its strategies.

You will lead on Safety, Health and Wellbeing projects within Environment, ensuring they are reviewed regularly, and objectives are met.
