Job summary

Airbus Defence and Space Limited in Stevenage is seeking an ambitious entry-level Functional Validation Engineer to join the Spacecraft & Systems Engineering group. You will learn to verify and validate critical hardware and software functions before launch, through guided development on fully simulated and hybrid test benches.

You will execute complete test cycles, validate complex spacecraft chains, and develop ATPs, while gaining exposure to project management and customer coordination.

Qualifications

• A strong technical aptitude or foundational knowledge in engineering, electronics, software, or a related field, combined with a genuine passion for aerospace and technology.
• A proactive, highly collaborative mindset with a strong desire to drive future innovation alongside a team of experienced engineers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, enabling you to effectively document tests and interact with diverse engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Execute the complete testing cycle-from specification to assessment-using both fully simulated numerical and hybrid hardware test benches.
• Validate complex spacecraft functional chains (such as GNC and DHS) and sub-assemblies through comprehensive open and closed-loop testing.
• Develop, write, and execute Automated Test Procedures (ATPs) against rigorous test specifications.
• Perform detailed test data analysis and compile comprehensive test reports in close collaboration with the wider design engineering areas.
• Support investigations into technical anomalies, actively diagnosing root causes and proposing effective engineering solutions.
• Gain valuable exposure to wider project management, including functional verification strategy, scheduling, and regular interactions with system architects and customers.
