Job summary

Hitachi Rail in London is seeking an Overhaul and Modification Technician to join the North Pole Train Maintenance Centre team. This permanent role involves rotating day and night shifts, with no prior railway experience required.

You will overhaul, modify, diagnose faults and repair Hitachi rolling stock, supporting intercity train fleets and customer testing processes. The role offers a clear path to develop railway engineering skills, with extensive on-site work at London facilities and

Qualifications

• Experience in manual handling and COSHH; working at height and powered tools (air/110V).
• Experience on a 24/7 shift roster.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong safety awareness in railway engineering environments.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul and modification duties as directed by Team Leader.
• Carry out fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on Hitachi rolling stock.
• Perform testing, commissioning and acceptance activities for new and repaired trains.
• Support maintenance and service delivery across Great Western/East Coast routes.
• Travel and overnight stays for servicing, repairs, and training as required.
