Job summary

LGPS Central is seeking a proactive risk professional to join our Wolverhampton-based team. You will support and own aspects of the enterprise risk management framework, including risk registers, controls, and reporting.

Collaborate with the Enterprise Risk Manager and CLCRO to design policies, quantify risks, and drive assurance activities across the business, while promoting a strong risk culture.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in asset management or financial services preferred.
  • Associated risk management qualifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and support the firm’s enterprise risk management framework, including maintaining risk registers, monitoring controls, and preparing reports.
  • Assist in design, development, and embedding of risk policies, procedures, and assurance frameworks across the business.
  • Identify, assess, and quantify operational and enterprise risk scenarios, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic risk advice with guidance from the Enterprise Risk Manager.
  • Produce accurate risk reports, analysis, and presentations for senior stakeholders.
  • Support operation of assurance frameworks, including input for audits and regulatory reporting.
  • Collaborate across functions to promote risk culture and embed risk management in decisions.
  • Build relationships with auditors and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex risk matters clearly for varied audiences.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and best practices to improve risk function.
  • Participate in professional development with knowledge of accounting, finance, investments, pensions, and risk.

Job description

Join LGPS Central at a pivotal moment, where investment meets long term impact.

Based in Wolverhampton, the successful candidate will work closely with the Enterprise Risk Manager and Chief Legal, Compliance and Risk Officer (CLCRO) to ensure the effective management of the firm’s enterprise risk frameworks.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operate and support the firm’s enterprise risk management framework, including maintaining risk registers, monitoring controls, and preparing reports.
  • Assist in the design, development, and embedding of risk policies, procedures, and assurance frameworks across the business.
  • Identify, assess, and quantify operational and enterprise risk scenarios, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic, and business-focused risk advice with appropriate guidance from the Enterprise Risk Manager.
  • Produce accurate and timely risk reports, analysis, and presentations for senior stakeholders, including the senior leadership team and risk and audit committee.
  • Support the operation of the firm’s assurance frameworks, including contributing evidence and input for internal and external audits and regulatory reporting where required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across functions to promote a strong risk culture and ensure risk management is embedded in decision-making.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with auditors, assurance providers, system suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Communicate technical and complex risk matters in a clear, concise, and relevant way for different audiences.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments, regulatory expectations, and best practice to support continuous improvement of the risk function.
  • Actively participate in professional development, ensuring knowledge of accounting, finance, investments, pensions, and risk management remains current.

Requirements

  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills, able to develop pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
  • Able to communicate complex and technical risk matters in a way that is clear, relevant, and understandable to different audiences.
  • Good report-writing and presentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Organised and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines under time pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and sound judgement.
  • Understanding of risk governance frameworks in asset management and how to implement them.
  • Knowledge of the three lines of defence model and how to apply it.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and quantify operational and enterprise risks.
  • Active commitment to continuous professional development, with an up-to-date understanding of accounting, finance, investments, and pensions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience).
  • Associated risk management practitioner qualifications/certifications (preferred).
  • Experience in asset management and/or wider financial services sector (preferred).
