Job description

Office location with Hybrid working:

Hammersmith

About the role and the Team:

The Enterprise Architect – NetCo / OSS is a senior individual contributor within the Enterprise Architecture function, accountable for the architecture of the OSS (Hypernet) domain that underpins our fixed-line, full-fibre broadband network. The role owns the target architecture, transition states and roadmap for OSS capabilities spanning network inventory, service fulfilment (order orchestration, provisioning and activation), and service assurance (fault, performance, diagnostics and test), ensuring these are coherent, scalable and aligned with the enterprise architecture and the company's customer‑centric transformation goals.

The role requires deep familiarity with FTTH/PON access network technologies (e.g. GPON/XGS-PON, OLT/ONT estates) and how the OSS integrates with the network layer via EMS/NMS platforms, network diagnostics and telemetry, alongside working knowledge of ServiceNow as it applies to network and service operations. The architect applies TM Forum standards (eTOM, SID, Open APIs) pragmatically, presents designs through the Architecture Review Board and Design Review Board, and works in close partnership with the Networks, Engineering, Data and Service Operations functions.

Success requires outstanding communication and stakeholder management: the architect must be able to simplify complex network and OSS scenarios for executive, business and technical audiences, and to guide solutions through the full project delivery lifecycle to successful outcomes.

What will you be doing?
  • Own the definition, governance and evolution of the OSS (Hypernet) domain architecture, including target architecture, transition states and roadmap, aligned with the enterprise architecture and strategic vision.
  • Architect core OSS capabilities: network inventory (physical, logical and service inventory), service fulfilment/order orchestration, provisioning and activation, and service assurance (fault, performance, test and diagnostics).
  • Apply TM Forum frameworks (eTOM process map, SID data model, Open APIs) pragmatically to OSS designs, promoting reuse, open interfaces and vendor interoperability.
  • Champion an AI‑native approach to OSS architecture, enabling intelligent automation, predictive assurance and closed‑loop operations.
Network & Access Technology Alignment
  • Work in close liaison with the Networks function to ensure the OSS accurately models and supports the FTTH/access network, including PON technologies (GPON/XGS-PON), OLT/ONT estates, and core/aggregation network evolution.
  • Define how the OSS integrates with the network layer via EMS/NMS platforms, ensuring robust patterns for element discovery, configuration, alarms, performance data and network diagnostics (e.g. PON optical diagnostics, line test and remote ONT troubleshooting).
  • Ensure network inventory remains an accurate, trusted source of truth, with clear data ownership, reconciliation and integrity controls between the network, EMS/NMS and OSS layers.
Solution Design Oversight & Delivery
  • Provide architectural leadership on strategic programmes touching the OSS domain, taking an end‑to‑end view across business, systems and network layers through the full project delivery lifecycle.
  • Produce and review high‑level and solution designs, presenting them through the Architecture Review Board (ARB) and Design Review Board (DRB) with clear rationale, options analysis and traceability.
  • Define integration architecture between OSS and adjacent domains (BSS/ISP stack, ServiceNow‑based workflow and field/service management, data platforms), favouring API‑led, event‑driven patterns.
  • Actively resolve complex architectural and integration issues, providing clear direction and pragmatic solutions that keep delivery moving.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders across Networks, Engineering, Service Operations, Data and delivery functions, acting as the recognised authority for OSS architecture.
  • Present complex OSS and network scenarios in a clear, simple and compelling way to audiences ranging from engineers to senior leadership.
  • Support the management of OSS/EMS vendor and supplier relationships, contributing to evaluations, selections and roadmap discussions.
Standards, Governance & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to enterprise architecture standards, principles, patterns and reference architectures, ensuring consistency, scalability, security and data integrity across OSS designs.
  • Maintain awareness of industry direction (TM Forum ODA, autonomous networks, AI/GenAI in operations) and translate it into pragmatic improvements to the OSS roadmap.
What we are looking for?
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications or equivalent experience
  • TOGAF, TM Forum or equivalent architecture certification - DESIRABLE
  • Significant experience in solution/enterprise architecture within telecoms, with deep expertise in the OSS domain (inventory, fulfilment, assurance)
  • Strong familiarity with fixed‑line broadband and FTTH/access networks, including PON technologies (GPON/XGS-PON), OLT/ONT architectures and access network topology
  • Experience architecting OSS integration with EMS/NMS platforms, including alarm/fault management, performance management and network diagnostics (e.g. optical/line test, remote ONT diagnostics)
  • Working knowledge of TM Forum frameworks (eTOM, SID, Open APIs) and their pragmatic application
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, particularly as applied to network/service operations workflows (e.g. ITSM, Telecommunications Service Management, Field Service Management)
  • Experience of integration architecture: API‑led and event‑driven patterns, orchestration and workflow design
  • Experience of leading architecture on large‑scale programmes through the full project delivery lifecycle, including Agile and hybrid delivery frameworks
  • Exposure to AI/ML and generative AI applied to network operations (predictive assurance, closed‑loop automation) - DESIRABLE
