Job summary

FCC Environment in Allington (Maidstone) is seeking an Enhanced Technician to support safe, efficient operation of the Allington Energy from Waste Facility. You will operate plant systems via DCS, monitor environmental compliance, and work on a shift roster with a full-time role.

Responsibilities include operating plant, supporting maintenance, coordinating contractors, and driving safety and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in plant operations or maintenance.
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Experience working with boiler and rotating plant preferred.
• NEBOSH or IOSH qualification desirable.
• Ability to analyse technical issues and provide practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant safely and efficiently in line with FCC procedures and environmental standards.
• Monitor and improve health, safety and environmental performance across the site.
• Carry out plant activities, including waste handling, boilers, turbines, pumps and associated systems.
• Support maintenance activities, including taking plant offline and returning it safely to service.
• Coordinate contractors and ensure Safe Systems of Work are followed.
• Lead and support operational improvements to increase plant performance.
• Participate in investigations, incident reporting and root cause analysis.
• Ensure all staff, contractors and visitors follow site safety procedures.
• Act as a Senior Authorised Person and support emergency response where required.

Salary – £42,249 - £63,374 per annum (plus benefits)

Hours – 40 hours per week, shift-based role

Location & Postcode – Allington Energy from Waste Facility, ME16 0LE

As an Enhanced Technician at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Allington Energy from Waste Facility. Reporting to the Shift Manager, you will help deliver day-to-day operational activities, operate plant systems via the Distributed Control System (DCS), and ensure the site remains compliant with environmental permit requirements.

This vacancy is for a full‑time position, working on a shift rota basis.

What will you be doing?

What are we looking for?

• - Experience in plant operations or maintenance, ideally within an energy recovery or process plant environment
• - Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and compliance requirements
• - Experience working with large boiler and rotating plant (preferred)
• - Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and develop teams
• - Ability to develop and follow operational procedures and risk assessments
• - DCS (Distributed Control System) knowledge is essential
• - NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or working towards) is desirable
• - Ability to analyse technical issues and provide practical solutions- A proactive, safety-focused approach with strong organisational skills
