Job summary

FCC Environment is seeking an Enhanced Technician to join the Allington Energy from Waste Facility. You will support safe, efficient operation, monitor environmental compliance, and work under a shift rota to ensure continuous plant performance.

Reporting to the Shift Manager, you will operate plant systems via the DCS, coordinate contractors, and assist with maintenance and incident investigations while upholding strict safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in plant operations or maintenance.
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Experience working with large boiler and rotating plant (preferred).
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and develop teams.
• DCS knowledge is essential.
• NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
• Ability to analyse technical issues and provide practical solutions.
• A proactive, safety-focused approach with strong organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Operating plant safely and efficiently in line with FCC procedures and environmental standards.
• Monitoring and improving health, safety and environmental performance across the site.
• Carrying out plant activities, including waste handling, boilers, turbines, pumps and associated systems.
• Supporting maintenance activities, including taking plant offline and returning it safely to service.
• Coordinating contractors and ensuring Safe Systems of Work are followed.
• Leading and supporting operational improvements to increase plant performance.
• Participating in investigations, incident reporting and root cause analysis.
• Ensuring all staff, contractors and visitors follow site safety procedures.
• Acting as a Senior Authorised Person and supporting emergency response where required.

Enhanced Technician Salary £42,249 - £63,374 per annum (plus benefits). Hours: 40 hours per week, shift-based role.

Job Overview

As an Enhanced Technician at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Allington Energy from Waste Facility. Reporting to the Shift Manager, you will help deliver day-to-day operational activities, operate plant systems via the Distributed Control System (DCS), and ensure the site remains compliant with environmental permit requirements. This vacancy is for a full-time position, working on a shift rota basis.

What Will You Be Doing?

What Are We Looking For?

• Experience in plant operations or maintenance, ideally within an energy recovery or process plant environment


• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and compliance requirements


• Experience working with large boiler and rotating plant (preferred)

• Ability to develop and follow operational procedures and risk assessments


• DCS (Distributed Control System) knowledge is essential


• NEBOSH or IOSH qualification (or working towards) is desirable
