Job summary

Capita seeks an English Tutor / SpLD Adviser for a part-time role (30 hours/week) based in Plymouth. The role requires eligibility for UK Security Clearance at SC level and involves classroom and remote delivery of IGCSE, Functional Skills and English tuition, along with examination coordination and support duties.

You will also screen for neurodiversity/SpLD traits, liaise with colleagues about referrals, and manage concessions for internal exams.

Qualifications

• Min of Level 3 teaching qualification.
• Experience of teaching English language.
• Experience of working with neurodiverse pupils.

Job Description:

Part‑time role, 30 hours a week (Monday–Friday) Plymouth Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

What you’ll be doing

• Delivering dynamic and engaging IGCSE, Functional Skills and Education for Promotion English tuition (or equivalents in devolved regions) – this will be classroom and remote teaching
• Coordinating and providing administrative support to examinations.
• Providing support, including as a personal tutor, as required to individuals with their English learning
• Liaising with personnel referring individuals for neurodiversity and SpLD assessment and support
• Conducting screening to identify typical neurodiversity/SpLD traits (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia) and recommending any further action based on the results (including referrals to suitably qualified professionals and support organisations)
• Processing and authorising neurodiversity/SpLD concessions for internal examinations

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

• Min of level 3 or equivalent in Teaching
• Experience of Teaching English language
• Minimum of level 3 in English (minimum of GCSE in English)
• Experience of working with neurodiverse pupils

Desirable:

• Any experience of teaching functional skills would be desirable (Maths/English/IT)
• Any experience of teaching adults/further education would be highly desirable
• Ideally hold SpLD level 5 but this can be done as part of the role
