Qualifications

Job description

English Teacher (Part-time) – Aurora Beeches

Location: Cranborne, Dorset

Hours: hours per week, Term time only

At Aurora Beeches in Cranborne, we believe in giving young people, ages -, the tools and opportunities to create the lives they want for themselves. We support all our young people with a range of needs including Autism and other associated conditions through high-quality teaching, individual support, and expert-led, integrated therapy. Our beautiful setting inspires and creates fun experiences to enhance learning and progress.

The main purpose of the role:

As our English Teacher, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning to young people aged - with social and emotional difficulties, anxiety disorders, and mental health needs. The focus is on increasing academic and vocational qualifications and knowledge, while developing independent living skills to prepare students for further education, training, or employment. Our students may present with challenging behaviors.

  • Contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, considering the educational, physical, and social needs of pupils within a learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain and utilize short-, medium-, and long-term plans in delivering the curriculum.
  • Set, monitor, and review personalized targets to optimize learning for each individual.
  • Contribute to the review of Statements, EHC plans, PEP, and LAC reviews.
  • Provide clear structures for lessons to maintain pace, motivation, and challenge.
  • Assist in developing the curriculum offer and stay informed about current issues in autism to plan effective teaching and learning.
  • Manage a delegated budget as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Essential: PGCE, QTS, QTLS teaching qualification, and evidence of in-service training.
  • Ability to teach from Entry Level 2 & 3, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2, and GCSEs in English.
  • Desirable: Experience working in a school environment, ideally in a specialist setting.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective planning, preparation, recording, and reviewing of pupils’ progress.
  • Good IT skills and understanding of how IT can support learning.
  • Ability to remain calm and reflective in challenging environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently, be well-organized, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to engage pupils in positive, enabling relationships.
