Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Teach engaging and challenging English Language and Literature lessons that inspire students and develop a genuine love of the subject.
  • Prepare students effectively for GCSE English Language and Literature examinations.
  • Develop students' ability to analyse texts, construct well-developed arguments and communicate their ideas confidently.
  • Encourage students to read widely and engage with a diverse range of literary texts.
  • Differentiate lessons effectively to meet the needs of students of varying abilities.
  • Challenge high-achieving students while providing appropriate support and intervention for those who require additional assistance.
  • Use formative and summative assessment to monitor progress and identify areas for development.
  • Provide high-quality feedback that enables students to understand how to improve.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour, effort and academic achievement.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Build strong relationships with students and encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the English department to develop curriculum resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, assessment, moderation and curriculum development.

The Role
