Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a state secondary school in Newbury, Berkshire, in recruiting a Curriculum Leader of English. This full-time, permanent role starts January or April 2027 and offers an exciting leadership path in a collaborative school culture.

Qualifications

• QTS and a degree in English or a related subject.
• Successful experience teaching English at secondary level.
• Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment and strategies to improve student progress.
• Ability to motivate students and build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to high expectations, inclusive teaching and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Developing an Engaging Curriculum: plan and deliver a coherent English curriculum for relevant key stages and diverse learning needs.
• Supporting and Developing Colleagues: foster collaboration across the department.
• Improving Student Outcomes: use assessment data to identify opportunities for improvement and help every student progress.
• Promoting Excellent Teaching: champion engaging lessons covering literature, poetry, drama and language to develop analytical and creative skills.
• Creating an Inclusive Classroom: ensure all learners feel supported and able to succeed.
• Contributing to School Improvement: work with colleagues and senior leaders to strengthen teaching and the educational experience.
