Job summary

Wandle Learning Trust seeks a qualified English teacher to lead literacy interventions in a secondary setting. You will focus on explicit vocabulary and reading instruction through our curriculum, while delivering targeted Reading Plus-supported interventions.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher with experience in English, early reading and phonics.

Responsibilities

• Maintain proactive communication with programme providers to deliver high-quality interventions.
• Carry out baseline and interim assessments and track students' progress.
• Organise timetables and monitor reading withdrawal groupings.
• Monitor reading progress using programme-aligned assessments and evaluate progress in English lessons.
• Provide progress data to SLT to monitor literacy strategy effectiveness.
• Deliver aspects of the alternative curriculum for KS4 pupils focusing on literacy and numeracy.

Job description

Maintaining proactive communication with programme providers to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality interventions.

Carrying out baseline and interim assessments as directed by the Head of Faculty i.c. Literacy and track students' progress

To organise and timetable sessions and routinely monitor composition of reading withdrawal groupings for Reading Plus.

Monitoring and tracking the reading progress of pupils in the intervention groups, using programme-aligned assessments, while also evaluating their ongoing progress within English lessons.

Routine provision of progress data, as requested by SLT to support the monitoring of the effectiveness of literacy strategy

Delivering aspects of alternative curriculum to KS4 pupils, such as literacy and basic numeracy

Providing support for intervention students

Supervise and provide particular support for students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities; use ILPs to ensure students' needs are addressed

Setting challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence

As well relevant experience and excellent classroom management, applicants will have the ability to analyse and use data to set and monitor targets and an awareness of the barriers to learning that young people face. A creative approach to engage and inspiring students is essential.

W e are seeking a qualified teacher with experience of successfully teaching English, early reading and phonics to join our English faculty and introduce a comprehensive literacy programme in our secondary setting. The programme will be focused on explicit teaching of vocabulary and reading through our curriculum as well as academic interventions. Reading interventions will be targeted at developing students' decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, as well as the love of reading.
