Job summary

Belcan is seeking a Technical Trainer/Engineering Trainer in Newcastle upon Tyne to deliver and assess engineering training programmes up to Level 2 and 3, supporting apprentices through their development journey and ensuring compliance with apprenticeship standards.

You will mentor learners, develop lesson plans and schemes of work, and use OneFile to maintain learner records while keeping content up to date and upholding a Zero Harm culture.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Machining or Engineering.
• Teaching qualification (Level 3 or 5) required or preferred.
• TAQA or equivalent preferred.
• DBS clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, assess, and internally verify engineering training up to Level 2.
• Assess and internally verify Level 3 competencies per apprenticeship standards.
• Coordinate and ensure timely completion of apprenticeship elements.
• Mentor apprentices to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours.
• Develop and maintain training materials, lesson plans and schemes of work.
• Use OneFile to maintain learner records and evidence of learning.
• Review and update course content, delivery methods and working practices.
• Maintain CPD and keep industry knowledge up to date.
• Uphold Zero Harm culture and ensure compliance with policies.

Technical Trainer / Engineering Trainer

Start date: 16/11/2026 (ASAP)

End date: 6 months (with potential to transition into a permanent role)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Onsite, Hybrid, Remote: Onsite 5 days a week

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Working Hours: 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday with a Half hour lSunch break and 7:30am to 12:30pm Friday with No lunch break.

Overtime: N/A

Additional compliance required/ to be obtained : Enhanced DBS

Role Overview

As a Technical Trainer / Assessor /Engineering Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering, assessing, and internally verifying engineering training programmes, while supporting apprentices through their development journey and ensuring compliance with apprenticeship standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Trainer will deliver, assess, and internally verify engineering courses up to Level 2.
• Assess and internally verify Level 3 competencies in line with apprenticeship standards.
• Coordinate, monitor, and ensure timely completion of all elements of apprenticeship programmes.
• Mentor apprentices in developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to achieve their apprenticeship standards.
• Engineering Trainer will develop and maintain engineering training materials, including lesson plans and schemes of work.
• Use OneFile to maintain accurate learner records and evidence of learning.
• Review and update course content, delivery methods, and working practices to meet future business needs.
• Maintain continuous professional development and keep industry knowledge up to date.
• Promote and uphold a strong Zero Harm culture and ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Machining,Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Engineering Trainer will have Level 3 or Level 5 Teaching Qualification (or equivalent).
• Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award (TAQA) - desired
• D32/D33 or A1 Assessor Award/ D34 or V1 Verifier Award- desired
• Ability to obtain, or currently hold, Enhanced DBS Clearance, including Adults' and Children's Barred List checks.
