Job summary

Perth College UHI is seeking an engineering technician to provide practical and technical support across engineering disciplines at UHI Perth. You will assist teaching and demonstrations, maintain workshops, machinery, tools and materials, and help manage stock and workshop resources, with emphasis on safe operation of CNC and laser cutting equipment.

• Completion of a relevant engineering, fabrication, welding or manufacturing qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain engineering workshops, machinery, tools, materials and teaching resources.
• Support practical teaching and demonstrations in engineering disciplines.
• Maintain stock and workshop resources and ensure safe storage.
• Undertake routine maintenance and fault finding on workshop equipment.
• Provide technical guidance on safe and effective use of engineering equipment.

Job description

UHI Perth is one of Scotland’s leading Colleges of Further and Higher Education, and a large partner in the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Working within the engineering area, you will provide practical and technical support to teaching and learning across engineering disciplines, with particular emphasis on fabrication and welding. The role also supports a broad range of engineering workshop equipment and technologies, including CNC machinery and laser cutting equipment.

You will have practical experience across a broad range of engineering, fabrication, welding, manufacturing, maintenance or closely related technical work. You will have completed a relevant engineering, fabrication, welding or manufacturing qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent combination of technical training and practical experience. An HNC in an engineering discipline or other appropriate qualification or experience is desirable.

The role involves preparing and maintaining engineering workshops, machinery, specialist equipment, tools, materials and teaching resources; supporting practical teaching and demonstrations; maintaining stock and workshop resources; undertaking routine maintenance and fault finding; and providing technical guidance on the safe and effective use of engineering equipment.
